Homage to Brancusi

Formed and welded aluminum

11ft.1in.h x 2ft.6in. w x 2ft.6in. d

To B. is a tribute to the Romanian sculptor Constantin Brancusi, one of the last century's most important artists.

The sculpture redefines an existing architectural motif. The obelisk as conceived by the Egyptians was a noon marker and symbol of renewal.

My process for forming the ascending columns in To. B., Blue Lotus and Lady of the Lotus was an exciting discovery and part of my research for working in metals. Unlike heating Lucite prisms, I learned from Wayne LaPierre and Joe Welch about the force needed to cold form metal. (see black and white image)

After its display at Fordham University Lincoln Center NYC, and The Fells in New Hampshire, since 2019, To B. is on loan in front of City Hall in the Clifton Sculpture Park.
